Mercy Hospital Springfield Selects Emmi Solutions as Their Patient Engagement Provider

Mercy Orthopedic Patients to Be Prescribed Emmi Solutions Interactive Multi-Modal Programs

SPRINGFIELD, MO--(Marketwired - Mar 18, 2014) - Mercy Orthopedic Hospital Springfield has chosen Emmi Solutions, a leader in outcomes-driven patient engagement, to empower and prepare their local and Medical Destination patients with correct information at the appropriate health literacy level prior to their surgical visit. As a leader in orthopedic surgery, Mercy Orthopedic Hospital Springfield was selected for a first-of-its-kind National Employers Centers of Excellence (ECEN) program that brings patients to the Ozarks from other parts of the country for knee and hip replacements. Mercy is slated to prescribe Emmi Solutions' programs to patients ahead of their procedure and empower them to be informed decision makers in their healthcare.

"Our mission is to offer the best optimized healthcare to our patients and technology like Emmi Solutions' programs enables us to do so," said David Globig, vice president of Operations at Mercy Hospital Springfield. "Our patients will be able to access essential medical information about their procedures in language that they can understand through whatever platform they prefer, whether on their iPad, a phone or their desktop computer. This ensures they're properly informed and ready to have the right kind of conversations with their health care team."

"Our research shows that this type of patient engagement approach helps to minimize stress and recovery time for patient, in addition to helping hospitals reduce labor costs," said Devin Gross, CEO of Emmi Solutions. "Patients come to their procedures with accurate expectations and their loved ones or caregivers will have had a chance to watch the programs too, everyone involved is supporting the patient towards the best possible health outcome."

For further background on the Medical Destinations program, Walmart, Lowe's and other large employers have partnered with the Pacific Business Group on Health Negotiating Alliance (PBGH-NA) to improve the medical care their employees receive while reducing their costs. This agreement covers 1.5 million employees and their dependents that are enrolled in the companies' medical plans. They will be eligible for no-cost knee and hip-replacement surgeries at four hospital systems in the United States, which have been designated as "Centers of Excellence." Those systems include Mercy Hospital Springfield; Johns Hopkins, Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Md.; Kaiser Permanente Orange County Irvine Medical Center in Irvine, Calif.; and Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Wash.
