Meridian Knowledge Solutions Renews Partnership With K12 Inc.

Meridian to Distribute Learning and Training Tools to K12 Online Teachers Through LMS

HERNDON, VA--(Marketwire - May 1, 2012) - Meridian Knowledge Solutions has renewed its contract for delivering a cloud-based learning management system to K12 Inc., the nation's largest provider of online education solutions for students in kindergarten through grade 12. K12 has tapped Meridian's SaaS offering to deliver start-up training for the education company's newly hired teachers, administrators and guidance counselors. The Meridian Global Learning Management System (LMS), part of the software maker's human-capital management platform, also tracks ongoing professional development for thousands of teachers in online schools that use the K12 program.

"The focus of the Meridian Global LMS is distributing learning to and reporting on certifications for K12's staff and teachers. Our technology helps raise the skill-level of each teacher, administrator and counselor," said John Leh, vice president of sales and marketing for Meridian. "Throughout the school year there is a cycle of training that goes on. The Meridian LMS helps K12 manage that cyclical schedule, so the organization can mold the delivery of training relative to its way of doing business."

The information that the Meridian Global LMS delivers to K12 teachers and staff includes instruction on effectively teaching online courses, building relationships between teachers and students and communicating successfully with families about lessons and grades.

"K12 provides excellent training, professional development and support to thousands of teachers across the country in the nation's largest network of online school teachers in kindergarten through high school," said Kathy Gales, a manager for the Academic Services Group at K12. "We have subject matter experts who develop our courses, and we use the learning management system to deliver and track that content.

"Before Meridian, we relied on a large, face-to-face gathering each August to deliver training to teachers," added Gales. "We had no single location for our asynchronous training content or an easy way to report certificates of completions. We knew we needed a plan and technology for the growing numbers of educators that are choosing to teach in online schools using K12."

According to Gales, a desire for scaling its training efforts was a primary reason for signing a contract with Meridian two years ago, and it led to the company's decision to renew its contract this year.
