Merrex Intersects 2.69 g/t au Over 15 Metres at the Siribaya Gold Project in West Mali and Expands the Gold Mineralized Structure to Seven Kilometres

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 18, 2007) - Gregory Isenor, P.Geo., President and CEO of Merrex Gold Inc. ("Merrex")(TSX VENTURE:MXI) is pleased to release drill results for the final 11 holes of a 25 hole diamond drill program at Merrex's Siribaya Gold Project in West Mali, West Africa. These drill results at Siribaya confirm the presence of a major gold mineralized structure and outlines gold mineralization at depth and establishes the continuity of gold mineralization along strike.

Commentary

"Assay results from the final 11 holes and further detailed logging of the first 14 holes from our diamond drill program at Merrex's Siribaya Gold Project have confirmed that mineralization is continuous to depth and along strike. The Siribaya Structure has the potential to develop into a substantial gold deposit" commented Merrex President and CEO Greg Isenor, P. Geo. "We believe we have identified a significant gold mineralized structure. This program has established by core drilling, both the depth and continuity of seven kilometres of the gold mineralized Siribaya Structure. (see map 1) Zone 1A continues to yield significant assays (2.69 g/t over 15 m) as does Zone 1B (6.14 g/t over 8 m) and of particular significance the assay results from the new zone at Timeta (3.78. g/t over 8m) establish the continuity of Siribaya mineralization over at least 7 kilometres. We have shown that this Structure is mineralized at depth and has an extensive strike length. The success of this program dictates that we proceed with a further 2,500 metres of drilling on the Structure. (see Maps 1, 2, and 3) Our diamond drill is on site at and further drilling will commence at the end of September."

2007 Drill Program - Results to Date

Overall, the 2007 drill program at Siribaya has produced very encouraging assay results at all three zones. A number of holes remain open at depth and continuity of the gold mineralization within the Siribaya Structure has been established. Further drilling scheduled to resume at the end of September will test the depth extension, strike extension and advance the understanding of the mineralization

At Zone 1A the drilling to date has intersected gold mineralization at depth and remains open at depth. Sufficient drilling has been done to enable a reasonable understanding of the geology and in particular the controls of mineralization. (see map 2) Additional drilling (see proposed holes on Section "A" of map 2) will test the depth, strike and plunge of the zone.

Map 2: http://www.ccnmatthews.com/docs/Map2-Zone1A1.pdf

At Zone 1B, the drilling to date has intersected gold mineralization at depth and remains open at depth. Sufficient drilling has been done to enable a reasonable understanding of the geology and in particular the controls of mineralization. Zone 1B appears to be a zone or series of zones (see map 3) and, most importantly at Zone 1B, the northern and southern mineralized zones appear to be one continuous zone at least 1.2 kilometres long, open at depth and also appear to be open to both the north and the south of each of those zones. Additional drilling (see proposed holes on map 3) will test the depth, strike, plunge and continuity of the 1.2 kilometre zone.

Map 3: http://file.ccnmatthews.com/release/Map3-Zone1B1.pdf

Zone Timeta is located at the south end of the Siribaya Structure and was outlined during 2006 by geochemistry and RAB drilling, but not previously diamond drilled. Gold mineralization in the diamond drill cores, including 3.76g/t Au / 8 m in this new zone now define the Siribaya Structure by diamond drill core to be at least 7 kilometres in length. Future drilling will test the down-dip extension of the mineralized zones identified at Zone Timeta.

All of the 2007 drill results will be incorporated into the 2500 metre drill program planned to commence at the end of September.

The summer 2007 drill program consisted of a total of 3666 metres over 25 holes collared at -50 and -55 to a maximum depth of 150 metres. HQ size drill core samples were detail logged, samples were collected every one metre down the entire hole and the samples shipped for gold analysis. Analysis of half core samples was carried out by ALS Chemex ABILAB Laboratory in Bamako and Merrex's independent Quality Control and Quality Assurance protocols for drill core included blank samples and duplicate samples. The program is being carried out under the supervision of Jean-Marc Gagnon, Eng., MBA, the qualified person, as defined under National Instrument 43-101, responsible for technical information presented in this news release. The driller was the African division of Longyear Canada, of North Bay, Ontario.

Merrex owns a large land position in the prolific West Mali gold producing area. Together with strategic partner Touba Mining, Merrex has acquired five mineral permits covering over 750 square kilometres and has a permit application in progress for an additional 150 square kilometres, all within the West Mali Gold Belt, a region which currently produces in excess of 1.5 million ounces of gold per year from such well-known large gold deposits as the Sadiola, Loulo mines. The Merrex permits cover highly prospective land with significant geological structures, associated geochemically anomalous gold zones, extensive orpailleur alluvial gold workings and artisinal underground workings.

Merrex Gold is a mineral resource exploration company focused on exploration for gold in West Mali, Africa, zinc in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, nickel in West Voisey's Bay, Labrador, and gold in Red Lake, Ontario, with a solid organization of people and projects to enable continued aggressive exploration, discovery, and growth.
