Message from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, on the Occasion of National Acadian Day

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Aug. 15, 2013) - I am delighted to extend greetings to everyone celebrating National Acadian Day.

On August 15, the tricoloured flag takes centre stage for Acadians celebrating their rich cultural heritage and history. Today, a wide range of family activities, gatherings, tintamarres and performances will showcase Acadian pride throughout Acadia and across the country.

The Acadian community-the first French colony established on Canadian soil-has preserved its identity over the centuries through sheer determination and resilience. That more than anything has enabled Acadians to share the beauty and uniqueness of their language, culture and traditions and to enrich our collective identity.

National Acadian Day is a wonderful opportunity to come together to celebrate the heritage of a vibrant community.

I wish you an enjoyable celebration!

David Johnston
