Meta-Leadership the Focus of the 2016 OPEN MINDS Executive Leadership Retreat

GETTYSBURG, PA--(Marketwired - July 11, 2016) - OPEN MINDS has announced that the focus of The 2016 OPEN MINDS Executive Leadership Retreat, scheduled for September 20-22, 2016 at the historic Gettysburg Hotel in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, will focus on meta-leadership. The retreat is designed as an annual bootcamp for current and future leaders to hone their leadership skills for the challenges of performance optimization and sustainability in a changing health care landscape.

"The meta-leadership skills of executives have never been as important as they are today," explains Monica E. Oss, OPEN MINDS Chief Executive Officer. "It is the leadership framework for strategically linking the efforts of different organizations to provide guidance, direction, and momentum that develop into a shared course of action for a common outcome -- a key in the current health care environment. Our retreat is focused on bringing to today's leaders several key topics: the range of options and "how to" best practices for making collaborations work; understanding the perspectives of potential collaborators; building the leader's strategic decisionmaking skills and "leadership intelligence," and preparing for the meta-leadership marathon -- the leadership resilience needed to make collaborations successful in the long-term."

In addition to the track on meta-leadership, the 2016 retreat has three other areas of focus:

  • Leadership skills for organizational transformation
  • Moral leadership and advocacy in health and human services
  • Creating "executive athletes" to lead in a changing landscape

To build on the meta-leadership focus, this year's retreat features two dynamic keynote speakers:

  • Peter Anderson, M.D., President, Team Care Medicine & Co-Author of Lost and Found: A Consumer's Guide to Healthcare
  • Suzanne F. Clifford, Senior Vice President of Integrated Primary Care, Community Health Network

Peter Anderson, M.D. retired from full-time practice and founded Team Care Medicine, a practice transformation consulting firm, in 2010. Today he is Team Care Medicine's president, the author of The Familiar Physician, and he continues to advance the cause for clinical care reform through a new book, Lost and Found: A Consumer's Guide to Healthcare, co-authored with Dr. Paul Grundy (IBM's Director of Global Healthcare Transformation). In a health and human service field that is increasingly dependent on integrated action and delivery of value, meta-leadership skills -- especially those surrounding collaborative care -- have never been as important as they are today. Dr. Anderson will kick-off this year's event with an opening keynote presentation focused on the future of care delivery for consumers with complex needs and a look at how to strengthen your organization's capacity to deliver high quality care through the use of dynamic, high-functioning teams.

Suzanne F. Clifford is the Senior Vice President of Integrated Primary Care at Community Health Network, a non-profit health system -- ranked among the nation's most integrated health care systems -- with over 200 sites of care throughout Central Indiana. She oversees strategy and operations for various ambulatory services, including Behavioral Health, Primary Care, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Post-Acute, Employer Health, Employee Health, Med-Checks and Retail Clinics. Prior to joining Community, she served as President of Inspiring Transformations, an organization focused on mobilizing diverse, multi-system coalitions to dramatically improve health outcomes. Ms. Clifford will open the second day of the retreat, a program designed around the meta-leadership pillars of transformation and collaboration, with her keynote presentation focused on improving outcomes through integrated care and population health management innovations.

Held annually in historic Gettysburg, attendees will also have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the Civil War's legendary leaders to learn how their challenges, success -- and even defeat -- provide great leadership lessons that can, and should be, applied today. This unique executive retreat is designed to give executives the skills they need to collaborate, manage change, and maximize organizational performance.
