Metacafe Video Games Launches Industry-First Curated Video Showcase for Gamers

Doug Perry, Former Editor-In-Chief of IGN Entertainment, Hired to Lead Metacafe Video Games

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - December 15, 2010) - Bolstering its position as the leading video entertainment site for today's 18- to 34-year-old entertainment drivers, Metacafe today launched Metacafe Video Games, the first curated video showcase solely dedicated to video games. Featuring more original and exclusive video games-related video content than any other site of its kind, Metacafe Video Games is dedicated to keeping gamers plugged into their passions.

Doug Perry, a 16-year game industry veteran, is leading Metacafe Video Games as editorial programming director. He served as editor-in-chief of multiple channels at IGN Entertainment for more than a decade, and his commentary has been featured in many media outlets, including CNN Headline News, Spike TV, MTV, G4 and the BBC. He most recently served as director of content at Daily Radar, a Future US property, following a stint leading editorial direction for GameTap, part of Turner Media.

"Telling the story via video is central to what makes Metacafe different -- and so relevant for today's 18- to-34-year-olds, who increasingly rely on online video as a primary source of information and entertainment," said Perry. "No-one is sourcing, creating, and curating more premium video game-related video content than us. This provides us with a significant advantage to tap into consumers, content partners and advertisers alike."

Joining Perry on the Metacafe Video Games team is pop culture and tech writer Scott Pierce, whose articles on Avatar, Salt, and Resident Evil have appeared in Wired and Popular Mechanics magazines.

Under Perry's leadership, Metacafe Video Games creates, curates and aggregates:

  • Feature stories, interviews, previews and reviews of the latest game releases for every major console, including for the PC and mobile devices
  • Exclusive "first look" trailers for major releases from leading game publishers
  • Live coverage and highlights from key gaming industry events, such as E3, GDC and TGS
  • Unique editorial franchises such as "MetaMotion," which showcases the latest games for today's motion-sensor consoles, "Meta Arcade," which highlights retrospectives on the evolution of popular gaming franchises and the 2010 Holiday Gift Guide, which features wishlist-worthy items for gamers
  • Original Web series such as "MetaMinute," which features Metacafe Video Game Editors' perspective on new and upcoming releases
  • Video highlights from premium content partners including IGN, GamePro, GamesRadar, GamerTV Live, The Jace Hall Show and others
  • Active social media extensions, including Facebook and Twitter (@MetacafeGames)

The launch of Metacafe Video Games follows the successful launch of Metacafe Movies earlier this year, with future efforts in Sports, Music and TV expected to follow in early 2011.
