MetaCarta and Mosaic, Inc. Join Forces on the Fight Against Terror

Partnership Provides U.S. Government Agencies With Geographic Intelligence Counterterrorism Solutions

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - July 16, 2007) - MetaCarta®, Inc., the leading provider of geographic search and referencing solutions, today announced a partnership with Mosaic, Inc., a woman-owned, small business providing consulting and services to the U.S. Government. This partnership will provide government agencies with geographic intelligence solutions that complement Mosaic's broad experience within the intelligence community to identify terrorism threats.

Geographic intelligence (geointelligence) combines map-driven geographic search, geographic referencing, and data visualization capabilities to produce actionable information. It is used in a variety of counterterrorism applications such as detecting threats to the nation's food supply, identifying improvised explosive device (IED) attacks on coalition forces, as well as discovering illegal importation of weapons. For example, government organizations can use geographic search of unstructured data to track food contamination outbreaks such as eColi. From RSS news feeds, reports or other federated sources, MetaCarta solutions can automatically and rapidly analyze documents for their geographic references and then precisely place icons on a map to show where the real hotspots are within a contaminated area. The officials in charge can click on the icon or browse through results to obtain the original content. By being able to pinpoint the concentration and visualize patterns of the outbreak within seconds versus minutes or hours, organizations can much more effectively deploy or direct preparedness and response from federal and state & local government operations centers as well as the private sector saving time, money and most importantly, lives.

"Mosaic is expert at understanding and implementing emerging technology solutions that can assist the intelligence community," said Gwyn Whittaker, Founder and CEO of Mosaic, Inc. "MetaCarta brings unique geographic intelligence capabilities that are ideal for intelligence applications."

"Location information isn't always stored in databases but is found on the Internet, in RSS feeds, social media, and in other repositories. Global situations require that organizations be able to identify geographic patterns in an effort to detect threats," said John Donnelly III, Vice President Worldwide Sales and Field Operations at MetaCarta. "We are thrilled to be working with the Mosaic team who understand and represent the requirements of the intelligence analyst community."
