Metamarkets CEO Michael Driscoll to Participate in The Economist's Ideas Economy: Information Event on the Role of Big Data in Transforming the Global Economy

Conference to Focus on Smart Systems and Intelligent Cities

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - May 29, 2012) - Michael Driscoll, CEO of Metamarkets, will participate in The Economist's second annual Ideas Economy: Information conference on June 5th and 6th at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The conference, which includes insight and analysis from some of the nation's most notable business leaders, innovators, authors and visionaries, will explore big data and the next generation of smart systems that are converging to link the physical and virtual worlds and to transform the global economy. This year's event will also feature a unique live simulation of a catastrophic cybersecurity attack with several of the country's foremost experts participating, including America's first cybersecurity czar, Richard Clarke.

Big data and smart systems present incredible opportunities -- stronger companies, smarter health care, and safer neighborhoods -- but just as many challenges. Privacy, security and intellectual property protection are perpetual worries, made even more challenging as more data are sent all over the world. Without intelligent planning and successful partnerships, these advances can create huge problems for individuals and companies and important regulatory challenges for governments. This conference examines the promise, as well as the perils of information and technology in the 21st century.

"Today, Web and mobile apps mean massive streams of data -- the lifeblood of any company -- can be collected, analyzed and acted upon immediately," said Driscoll. "I look forward to a lively discussion with industry peers on the benefits, opportunities and challenges Big Data provides and the next generation of smart systems."

"Big data is revolutionizing businesses and governments around the world," said Kenneth Cukier, The Economist's first data editor and a co-chair of the conference. "This conference offers a transdisciplinary look at how we can all leverage these changes for the maximum positive impact."
