MetaMetrics Launches New Math@Home

Free Web Utility Allows Parents to Search for Mathematical Resources to Support Classroom Instruction at Home

DURHAM, NC--(Marketwire - December 15, 2010) - MetaMetrics®, developer of The Quantile® Framework for Mathematics, has launched an enhanced version of its popular Math@Home web utility. The new Math@Home provides parents with easier access to a growing number of mathematical materials and activities that support the textbook lessons their children are studying in school.

Math@Home is powered by the Quantile Framework, a unique measurement system that uses a common scale and metric to assess both a child's level of mathematical achievement and the difficulty of mathematical skills and concepts. The Quantile Framework spans the developmental continuum from kindergarten mathematics through the content typically taught in Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry and Pre-calculus.

By entering some basic information, including the child's state, grade, and Quantile measure or comfort with grade-level mathematics, parents can then select the child's textbook to find instructional resources that match both his or her mathematical level and current textbook lesson. Math@Home provides access to a variety of resources, like books, worksheets and websites, from MetaMetrics and its instructional partners: Conceptua Math (www.conceptuamath.com), The Math Learning Center (www.mathlearningcenter.org), Key Curriculum Press (www.keypress.com) and Shodor (www.shodor.org).

"We are thrilled to be part of this free web utility that helps parents get more involved in their children's education by offering a portal to family-friendly resources that will help all children attain a deeper understanding of mathematics," said Arjan Khalsa, CEO of Conceptua Math.

The Quantile Framework differs from other measurement systems in that it evaluates mathematical achievement and the difficulty of mathematical skills and concepts on the same developmental scale. Quantile measures describe a child's readiness for instruction and indicate which skills and concepts the child is likely ready to learn and those that will require additional instruction. By using this information, educators and parents can connect the child with resources that meet his or her unique learning needs. In addition to Math@Home, educators can use the free Quantile Teacher Assistant (http://qta.quantiles.com) to find additional resources that align with their state's curriculum and the Common Core State Standards.

"With nearly all states still facing budget shortfalls, it is imperative that we continue to provide educators and families with free resources to support learning in the classroom and at home," said MetaMetrics President and co-founder Malbert Smith III, Ph.D. "In the same way that states have added our 'Find a Book' search tool to their literacy programs, we encourage states to use Math@Home to support their mathematics initiatives -- during the school year and over summer break when research shows that all children lose some level of mathematical proficiency."
