The Methodist Willowbrook Athletic Trainers Prepare for Ultimate Frisbee State Championship and Challenge Soccer Texas Shootout Events

The Certified Athletic Trainers of the Methodist Center for Sports Medicine at Willowbrook Ready to Keep the Hundreds of Competing Students Strong Throughout Competition

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - May 03, 2013) -  The certified Athletic Trainers (AT) of the Methodist Center for Sports Medicine at Willowbrook will serve this month as the athletic training team for one of the largest ultimate frisbee competitions in Texas. They will also provide services for the top women's college recruiting soccer event of the year -- helping hundreds of young athletes from schools across Texas stay game ready during events.

Hosted by the Houston Ultimate Community, this year's Texas High School Ultimate Frisbee State Championship will welcome over 20 ultimate frisbee teams from Austin, Houston and the Dallas-Fort Worth areas. The Methodist athletic trainers will serve as support staff at the event May 11-12, at The True Electric Park in Klein (The Farm League on Stuebner Airline) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Following the Ultimate Frisbee Championship, the athletic trainers will provide support to the 26th Annual Challenge Soccer Texas Shootout competition, which encompasses five parks and over 400 teams of predominantly female players ranging in age from nine to 18. Nationally recognized, the event draws state, regional and national level teams and clubs from all over the country, as well as college coaches from NCAA Division, I, II, II, NAIA and JC's.

"We're ready for some great competitions and prepared for anything that may arise. We'll be providing athletic training services and evaluating injured athletes at both of these events," said Mike Pace, ATC, LAT.

"We'll be available the entire time to assess and treat any athlete who becomes injured during a competition -- providing quality medical first aid coverage and referral to the appropriate medical facility if needed," added Pace.

The Methodist athletic trainers work closely with the board certified primary care sports medicine team, the orthopedic and sports medicine specialists and rehabilitation therapists to provide support to a number of community events throughout the year. Other upcoming events include "all school activities" state mandated sports physicals, which are scheduled on the Methodist Willowbrook campus June 8 and August 3 from 8 a.m. to noon, for students who missed those performed in school.

The Methodist Willowbrook athletic trainers also include Keith Jahn, LAT, Paula Douglas, LAT, and Dwight Adsit ATC, LAT. Each is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association, the Texas State Athletic trainers Association and the Greater Houston Athletic Trainers Association.
