Metrasens Spotlights New Ferroguard Screener at AHRA Congress

MALVERN, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Aug 10, 2011) - Metrasens, world leader in ferromagnetic detection (FMD) technology, announces today that its new Ferroguard Screener system will be the focus of the company's presence at the important Association for Medical Imaging Management (AHRA) congress next week in Grapevine, Tx. The new product was launched in May 2011, is already in use in MRI departments in Europe and this will be its first showing at a US congress.

Ferroguard Screener is a unique "on-demand" ferromagnetic screening system that provides instant whole-body safety screening for patients and staff in Zone 3 of the MRI Work Area as recommended by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Existing Ferroguard FMD systems are already widely adopted by facilities in ACR Zone 4 to provide protection from potentially dangerous items entering the MRI room. Ferromagnetic objects that are taken into the MRI suite will be strongly attracted, often with unstoppable force, into the magnet. Such projectile accidents can result in patient and staff injuries and costly damage to sophisticated MRI scanners. Commenting on the benefits of Screener, Dr. Simon Goodyear, co-founder and CEO of Metrasens, said, "Integrated simply into the facility's safety procedure, the new and unique Screener further extends the MRI safety levels by enabling selective screening of patients or staff members for the smallest of hazardous items, which may also cause distortion of the MRI scan images with consequent delays and cost increases." Dr. Goodyear went on to emphasise that Metrasens employs the highest sensitivity detectors in its Ferroguard range: "Sensitivity equals reliability, consistency and confidence for our customers. At Metrasens we understand that MRI professionals do not wish to compromise this confidence by accepting cheaper and less sensitive detection technology."

Notes for editors: Metrasens Limited is provider of the Ferroguard range of ferromagnetic detection systems for protecting MRI facilities from the dangers of projectile accidents. The world-leading sensor technology in Ferroguard provides highest sensitivity resulting in greatest detection reliability. Metrasens is headquartered in the UK, has US sales and support facilities in Illinois and a growing network of international distribution partners. Metrasens' sophisticated magnetic-detection core technologies are also being successfully employed in the rapidly growing worldwide security markets.
