The Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) will hold its Educational Conference and Exposition at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) May 19 to 22 where more than 2,000 attendees, speakers and exhibitors are expected. Conference highlights include keynote speaker former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle "Gabby" Giffords who was shot by a gunman during a campaign rally three years ago, and her husband, Captain Mark Kelly, a retired combat pilot and astronaut. The ALA conference is expected to infuse into the City of Toronto and local environs more than $5.7 million in delegate spending, a boon to retailers, restaurants and hotels in the downtown core.
"ALA sought a world-class city to host the premier annual event for professionals engaged in the business of law and Toronto delivers that to ALA," said John Delavan, senior director, Member Experience. "The city's prestige in the world of business, its diversity and the infrastructure in the city centre - the convention venue, the host hotels and a variety of offsite dining and entertainment options - made Toronto very appealing to ALA. Another important consideration was ease of travel to Toronto for our attendees, business partners, and staff through Pearson International Airport and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport."
"Access to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre is an important criterion for conference and event planners," said MTCC CEO Barry Smith. "The Billy Bishop airport offers visitors to Toronto, the convenient option of landing downtown, close to some of our city's finest attractions, which benefit from this type of visitor business, in ALA's case, stimulating millions of dollars in local spending."
In addition to the more than 1,100 attendees representing private law firms, corporate and government legal departments, and legal aid societies from around the world, nearly 200 exhibitors will participate in the three-day exposition featuring companies that provide vital products and services to legal professionals and their employer organizations. MTCC's ample space will house more than 90 education sessions and the conference's exposition.
"Not only was MTCC's downtown location and recent revitalization attractive, its 1,300-seat John Bassett Theatre really appealed to ALA conference organizers," said Delavan. "It's the perfect venue for Mid-west US rock band REO Speedwagon to perform an exclusive concert for delegates."
