MGM Resorts International Joins Leap Forward to Expand Picture-in-Picture Patent Pool (pIPP)

RENO, NV--(Marketwire - Jun 4, 2012) - As part of its ongoing effort to bring industry-leading technology partners together to expand the licensing of essential Picture-in-Picture (PiP) patents, Leap Forward Gaming (LFG), a leader in providing gaming industry solutions, announced today that MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) has joined the PiP Intellectual Property Pool (pIPP) by exclusively licensing its PiP patent.

PiP technology allows gaming operators to take over all, or a portion, of a gaming machine's video screens so that they may present games, media content, interactive bonusing events, directed marketing messages and applications to players. By providing these services in a secondary picture on the video screens, game play is not interrupted.

The pIPP provides licenses to patents that enable PiP functionality and the highly desired applications that operators want to run with this enhanced ability. Effective immediately, licenses to MGM's US patent number 5,971,271 titled "Gaming device communications and service system" are available exclusively through the pIPP licensing program.

In addition to the exclusively licensed MGM PiP patent, the pIPP includes exclusively licensed patents from technology provider Gaming Technology Group (GTG), as well as LFG's own PiP patents, and currently includes US patents 5,971,271; 6,379,246; 8,083,592; 8,088,014 and 8,133,102. Non-exclusive licenses are available on affordable terms to any manufacturer or operator that has offered, or is planning to offer, PiP capabilities.

MGM Resorts International COO, Corey Sanders said, "MGM is very pleased to license our PiP patent to the pIPP so the industry can benefit. MGM has a history of spotting industry-changing solutions and it is gratifying to see our vision of over sixteen years ago come to fruition. We believe that PiP is the next technology wave that will transform the gaming floor and we are thrilled our intellectual property is included in this important patent pool."

Leap Forward Gaming CEO Ali Saffari added, "We are honored to welcome such a progressive and visionary partner as MGM, one of the world's leading hospitality companies, and their important contribution to our patent pool and licensing program. This latest agreement confirms and reinforces the importance of linking innovations that advance the industry, enhance entertainment value, and most importantly, increase operators' profitability. We believe that the pIPP will usher in a new wave of opportunity to transform the industry. Just as the cashless IPP and TITO changed the industry, we believe that the pIPP and PiP applications will be the next game-changer."
