Michael Burgess, Bridget Hall Work Their Magic

For 8 Year Old Cancer-Fighting Shania

Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Lifestyle Editor, News Editor, Photo Editor TORONTO/MEDIA ADVISORY/NEWS/PHOTO/EDITORS--(CCNMatthews - April 28, 2007) - Eight year old cancer patient Shania Johnston is planning some serious fun today - and she's managed to enlist some pretty big names to help her out. Michael Burgess, Bridget Hall (TVO's Spellz), Markham's mayor Frank Scarpitti, and Councillor Caroline Maretti will all be on hand to help Shania raise money for The James Fund, the leading neuroblastoma research initiative in Canada, and one of the best hopes to save Shania's life.

Shania's Sunflower of Hope Fun Fair is an indoor Fun Fair filled with games, inflatables, pony rides, clowns, face painting, craft table, bake sale, silent auction, door prizes, great food and more. Shania will be selling her hand made jewelry which, to date, has raised over $14,000 for The James Fund to support research into the disease which she is currently battling. Shania's jewelry has been sold by supporters across Canada.

April 28, 2007, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, with magic workshops and an autograph session by Bridget Hall, the teenage star of "Spellz" and an autograph autograph session. Michael Burgess will be on deck from 11 until approximately 1pm.

11:00 am Photo Op:
Opening Ceremonies where eight year old cancer patient Shania Johnston will present singer Michael Burgess and the kid host of TVO's hit show Spellz Bridget Hall, Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti and Councillor Caroline Maretti, with her hand-made bracelets. Shania makes and sells bracelets to raise money for The James Fund.

Shania has been recognized by York Region with the Citizen Character Award, by York Regional District School Board in Celebration of Student Successes, and featured in several local newspaper stories for Making a Difference.

Funds gathered by Shania's Sunflower of Hope Fun Fair will go to The James Fund for Neuroblastoma Research at SickKids. The James Fund was established in the name of 8 year old James Birrell to fight the disease that ultimately killed him almost 6 years ago. Hollywood actor Tom Hanks is its Honourary Patron.
