Michael W. Smith & Garrison Keillor Debut State Fair Line-Up

DES MOINES, IA--(Marketwire - March 26, 2008) - Grammy Award-winning Michael W. Smith and popular radio personality Garrison Keillor are the first of several acts to be announced in the 2008 Iowa State Fair Grandstand Line-up presented by U.S. Cellular. Tickets for Smith's August 7 performance are $25 and go on sale to the public on Saturday, April 12 at 10 a.m. Keillor will take the stage on August 17; tickets are $25 and go on sale to the public on Saturday, April 19 at 10 a.m.

Michael W. Smith has enjoyed long-standing popularity throughout his career, producing 18 albums and 28 number one hit songs. He has received numerous distinctions including 40 Dove Awards, three platinum albums and one Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album, "Worship Again." His debut hit, "Friends," was named number one song of all time by CCM Magazine. Today, Smith remains one of Christian contemporary music's best-selling artists with career sales exceeding 10 million records.

Natalie Grant and Matthew West will open the August 7 show at 8 p.m. Named Gospel Music Association's Female Vocalist of the Year for the past two years, Grant is currently celebrating the success of her seventh album, "Relentless," which was released last month. West, multiple Dove Award nominee and author of hit songs "More," "Only Grace" and "Next Thing You Know," is also celebrating the success of his seventh album, "Something to Say," which was released in January.

Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" has gained popularity through radio, print and even a popular 2006 film adaptation. Begun in 1974, "A Prairie Home Companion" started as a typical talk radio show that soon evolved into an on-air variety extravaganza recorded before a live audience. In it, Keillor blends together comedy sketches, live music and his signature monologue, "The News from Lake Wobegon," to provide his fans with an evening of entertainment they'll not soon forget. The August 17 show begins at 8 p.m. and is sponsored by Iowa Public Radio.

Tickets for both shows will be available at all Ticketmaster outlets, charge-by-phone numbers and online at No tickets will be available at the Fair's box office until it opens July 7 (assuming tickets remain).

All concert events are reserved seating; track events are general admission. Beginning July 7, the Fair's Ticket Office will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays - Fridays and 9 a.m. to Noon on Saturdays for walk-up orders only (no mail, phone or fax orders). Convenience charges will apply to all tickets.
