Michigan Health Connect Partners With Medicity to Augment Health Information Exchange Across Michigan

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwire - January 4, 2011) - Medicity -- the standard for health information exchange (HIE) solutions nationwide -- announced today that Michigan Health Connect (MHC) will adopt Medicity's complete technology infrastructure for the next stage of its HIE development. MHC will implement the full HIE suite, including ProAccess Community and MediTrust Cloud Services, to build on its existing investment in Medicity's Novo Grid. MHC, whose anchor members include seven independent health systems with 34 hospital facilities in Michigan, spans 80 percent of the counties in the lower peninsula based on the primary service areas of the participating hospitals.

MHC was formed in March 2010, after its founding organizations -- Lakeland Health System, Metro Health, Northern Michigan Regional Health System, Spectrum Health and Trinity Health -- realized they had all adopted Medicity's Novo Grid technology to automate distribution of clinical data to affiliated physicians and opted to work together to promote care collaboration throughout the broader community. MHC has since added McLaren Health Care and the five ministries of Ascension Health in Michigan as anchor members. The organization's goal is to provide a technology infrastructure that enables all healthcare providers to securely exchange patient information and coordinate care.

MHC has already deployed results delivery, laboratory and radiology ordering and EHR interfaces to hundreds of physician practices and has also implemented Medicity technology to enable referrals between practices. By adopting Medicity's full HIE infrastructure, MHC will be able to aggregate and match patient data to create longitudinal patient records -- while enabling the participating health systems to maintain ownership of their own data.

"We are excited to take this step toward enhancing continuity of care and reducing unnecessary costs associated with inefficiencies in the healthcare system," stated Doug Dietzman, Executive Director, Michigan Health Connect. "This added technology will move us closer to our goal of providing an integrated HIE solution that can meet the needs of all providers in the community."

Kipp Lassetter, M.D., Medicity's CEO, stated, "MHC is a unique organization that is realizing HIE success from the bottom up. MHC providers can already exchange information with hospitals and other providers across acute and ambulatory settings. With this next stage of development, they will be able to securely access a longitudinal view of the patient -- giving them the tools they need to improve the quality and cost of care."
