Michigan Manufacturers Added 18,000 Jobs in Fifth Straight Year of Gains

EVANSTON, IL--(Marketwired - May 09, 2016) - Michigan manufacturing employment climbed for a fifth straight year, reports the 2016 Michigan Manufacturers Directory®, an industrial database and directory published by Manufacturers' News, Inc. (MNI) Evanston, IL. According to MNI's database of manufacturers, Michigan gained 17,990 manufacturing jobs from February 2015 to February 2016, a 2.6% increase.

Michigan is now home to 13,797 manufacturers employing 686,470 workers. MNI reports the state has so far added more than 70,000 industrial jobs or 11% since February 2010, ranking among the nation's strongest recoveries from the recession.

"Following the precipitous losses suffered during the recession, Michigan has re-established itself as the center of the auto manufacturing universe. With its abundance of project funding and shovel-ready sites, as well as its skilled labor pool, the state has huge appeal for manufacturers," says Tom Dubin, President of the Evanston, IL-based publishing company, which has been surveying industry since 1912. "However, a stronger dollar and soft global demand will continue to offset growth."
