Micronas Zooms in on Surveillance and Security Applications and Creates High Resolution Mini-IP Camera Development Kit

High Quality Video, Low-Power Consumption, and Low Cost Are the Key Offerings in This Completely Integrated Design

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - August 20, 2007) - Micronas (Zurich, Switzerland, SWX Swiss Exchange: MASN), a leading supplier of innovative, application-specific IC system solutions for consumer electronics, today announced a Mini-IP Camera development kit based on Micronas Cypher ESN7108A real-time streaming media encoder system on chip (SOC). The camera streams live audio/video content instantaneously over wired or wireless IP networks at D1 resolution. The Mini-IP Camera development kit is targeted for Small Office/Home Office and professional surveillance cameras where networked IP cameras are being utilized to prevent crime or record daily activities.

The Mini-IP Camera allows users to easily set up and view live, full-motion video from anywhere on the Internet or a private computer network using a standard web browser. It can transmit standard definition, high-quality video images and audio at bit rates ranging from128kbps to 6Mbps for security, surveillance, and other types of monitoring applications, and has built-in motion detection. The low-power camera can be remotely managed, accessed, and controlled from a PC, mobile phone or other consumer electronic device via its embedded HTTP server. Users can also easily pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) with the camera through a RS232 control port that can be remotely managed. While many high resolution cameras provide less than 1 frame-per-second (FPS), Micronas raised the bar providing 30FPS of video streaming capability.

"Micronas has been widely recognized as the driving force behind high-quality, next-generation chip development, and now, Micronas has set a new de facto standard for the industry," said Andreas Letsos, Director of Product Marketing for the PC Market Center at Micronas. "This camera design has the ability to powerfully process and compress images and sound at real time, and transmit the compressed content over a network. The design provides an unprecedented level of integration enabling highly cost and size efficient designs."

With increasing consumer demands for higher quality, compatibility, and feature support, this development kit supports MPEG-4, MPEG-2, MPEG-1, H.263, and MJPEG video encoding, allowing for optimized image quality and bandwidth efficiency. The Cypher ESN7108A SoC supports AES encryption for content security, and is ideal for a variety of security applications and digital video equipment. This powerful SOC with its MIPS based processor runs the Linux OS thus enabling differentiation through customizable software. The camera uses standard single and multi cast network protocols such as RTSP enabling the content to be viewed on any platform including Windows, Unix, Linux, and Macintosh OS X.

This complete, integrated development kit includes hardware, software, and sensor plus lens. An internal microphone is provided, along with external headphone/speaker connection and PTZ interface.

"Micronas has captured the reality of motion and stocked its Mini-IP camera with great computational power and special features for video management, networking, data streaming, MPEG-4 compression, and audio enhancing its brand in the industry," added Letsos.
