Midget Tournament, Players and Coaches Clinics Highlight Events at 2009 CIS FINAL 8

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 11, 2009) - In conjunction with Canadian Interuniversity Sport and Scotiabank Place, the host organizing committee for the 2009 CIS Final 8 Men's Basketball Championship presented by Milk today announced three upcoming events taking place over the course of Final 8 weekend in Ottawa.

Sponsored by Carleton University and hosted by the Ottawa Shooting Stars basketball club, the 12-team CN midget boys basketball tournament features top AA and AAA teams from across Ontario and Quebec. All tournament games will take place at the Carleton University Ravens' Nest, beginning on Friday afternoon. With more than 30 non-participating CIS coaches attending the Final 8 tournament this weekend, players competing in the midget tournament will receive top-tier exposure. A Basketball Ontario-sanctioned event, the tournament's championship game will take place at the Ravens' Nest on Sunday at 1 p.m.

More than 100 area basketball players between the ages of 10 and 16 will be on the court at Scotiabank Place on Thursday evening to take part in the CN Player Clinic with Thompson Rivers University men's head coach Thom Gillespie and Carleton women's head coach Taffe Charles.

The CN Coaches Clinic will take place on Saturday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Norm Fenn Gymnasium on the Carleton campus. More than 50 area and school coaches will participate in the session, featuring three of the CIS's top coaches: Olga Hrycak (Universite du Quebec a Montreal), Rod Gilpin (Bishop's University) and Shawn Swords (Laurentian University). The clinic will focus on drills, skills and special tactics in addition to both offensive and defensive concepts. Milk will also host a nutrition session. While the players' clinic is sold out, registrants will be accepted at the door for the coaches clinic, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
