Midlands Minerals Announces Commencement of Drilling on Sian Gold Property-Ghana

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 26, 2007) - Midlands Minerals Corporation (TSX VENTURE:MEX) ("Midlands" or the "Company") is pleased to confirm the start of a drilling program on the Sian property in Ghana in the first week of April 2007. Approximately 10,000 metres of drilling are planned, with a diamond drilling program on the Esaase open pit mine and an RC drilling program on the Esaase extensions.

"The objective of the drilling program is to increase the indicated resource at Esaase Mine and to develop additional resources on the entire property", said Marc Boisvert, P. Eng., Vice President Exploration.

Two drilling programs will be conducted concurrently. The first program is definition diamond drilling with holes at 50 metre intervals on the Esaase deposit where there is a current indicated resource of 100,000 ounces (1.3 million tonnes @ 2.3 g/t Au) and an inferred resource of 100,000 ounces (0.5 million tonnes @ 5.7 g/t Au). The Company signed a diamond drilling contract with Eagle Drilling Inc. of Vancouver on February 21, 2007.

The second program is a Reverse Circulation (RC) drill program designed to test soil geochemical, IP geophysical anomalies, and gold showings which form lateral extensions of the Esaase open pit mine including Esaase East, Odumasua and the Ampeha open pit mine. Midlands signed an RC drilling contract with Minerex Drilling Contractor Ltd. of Accra, Ghana on February 22, 2007.

The RC drilling program is aimed at confirming ore grade intersections on the extensions of the Esaase open pit mine and Esaase East. The first part of the RC drilling program will test soil geochemical trends forming the immediate extensions of Esaase and Esaase East gold showings. The second part of the RC program will be a scout drill program on other selected geochemical and IP geophysical anomalies located less than 3 kilometres from the Esaase open pit mine.

"In this current drill program, the Company is focusing its efforts on the Sian property. Drill targets on the contiguous Kwahu Praso property, which form the north extension of the gold district of the Esaase Mine, will be drill tested later this year," said Marc Boisvert, P.Eng.

The Sian property is contiguous to Midlands' Kwahu Praso, together forming a 160 square kilometre package of prime exploration ground. Sian/Praso are 30 kilometres north east of Newmont Mining's 8+ million ounce gold deposit at Akyem. The gold mineralization on Sian is a silica-carbonate with disseminated pyrite alteration similar to that found at Newmont's Akyem property.

"We are very pleased to have two drill rigs confirmed and signed contracts in place; we look forward to the start of the program", said Kim Harris, Chief Executive Officer.
