Midlands Minerals Announces Commencement of Second Half of Drilling on Sian-Ghana

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2007) - Midlands Minerals Corporation ("Midlands" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:MEX) is pleased to report the second half of the drilling program is underway on Sian in Ghana. "The positive assay results from our earlier drilling have given us the confidence to add over 2,400 meters of drilling to our original estimate of 10,000 meters for a new total of 12,400 meters. With the gold grades, quality, widths and continuity confirmed, we only need to increase the tonnage to bring Sian to a feasibility study stage by the end of 2008", said Marc Boisvert, P.Eng., Vice President Exploration.

There are two drill rigs on site and the diamond core and RC drilling programs are running concurrently. Ten diamond holes are planned to be drilled to a depth of up to 350 meters, and 37 RC holes are planned to be drilled to a depth of between 130 to 150 meters. In this current round of drilling, a total of 5,150 RC meters are planned and approximately 3,400 meters of diamond drilling are planned.

"The good news is that we are drilling and finding new gold zones in areas not previously explored and we are also drilling deeper than the previous owner's indicated resource lower limit of 120 meters. Our diamond drill holes are planned to be up to 350 meters and our RC holes up to 150 meters. This is significant because this greatly enhances the potential to increase the resource on this property", said Kim Harris, President and Chief Executive Officer.

The Sian property is 30 km northeast of Newmont Mining's Akyem deposit with over 8 million ounces of gold and is on trend. It is also significant that the gold mineralization on Sian is a silica-carbonate alteration with disseminated pyrite similar to that found at Newmont's Akyem gold deposit. With a 30 year mining lease and all the infrastructure, a processing plant, roads, power and water in place, Sian is a fully permitted past open pit gold producer with a gold recovery of 91%.

There is an indicated resource on Sian (1.3 million tonnes @2.3 g/t) and the assays from drilling completed in June 2007 confirm that the Sian gold deposit has gold grade continuity and widths, and there are also, high grade mineral shoots grading over 5g/t in addition to previously unknown parallel gold structures.

The map below summarizes previous results in terms of noting the location of the indicated resource, and where Midlands drilled in April, May and June 2007. The map also indicates the areas where Midlands plans to drill in this current drilling program. The core drilling is designed to test the Esaase pit and its extensions, the objective being to increase tonnage and the resource on Sian. The objective of the scout RC drilling is to outline new gold zones for additional resources.

Of the ten planned diamond holes, two holes will drill the south extension, three holes will drill the depth extension below 200 meters depth, and five holes will drill the north extension where holes MEDD-001 (10.81 g/t Au over 7.0m) and 390-1 (5.75 g/t Au over 12.0m) indicate higher average gold grade values, suggesting mineral shoots above 5 g/t Au.

Below is a summary of the results from the diamond drilling completed in June 2007:

Hole ID From (m) To (m) G/t Au Interval (m)
MEDD-001 174 181 10.81 7.0
MEDD-002 170 183 1.99 13.0
MEDD-003 244 250 1.29 6.0
MEDD-004 172 181 1.48 9.0
MEDD-005 155 166 2.08 11.0
MEDD-006 158.36 164 2.43 5.64
MEDD-007 117 121 0.87 4.00
MEDD-008 20 22 0.68 2.00

The RC program resumed on August 6th 2007. It is the continuation of the scout RC program initiated in May 2007 and completed in June 2007. This RC scout drilling tested soil anomalous areas on trend with the Esaase pit mine and anomalous areas parallel to the gold deposit on Esaase. 1,620 meters of RC drilling were completed in June 2007. The results which include two new gold zones previously unknown, confirmed the validity of the detected soil anomalies and justified the testing of all other soil anomalies on trend and adjacent to the Esaase Mine. At the end of Midlands current RC drilling program, a total of 6,800 meters of RC would have been drilled by Midlands on the Sian property.

Of the 37 RC holes planned in this phase of drilling, 24 holes (2,961 meters) have been completed to date and the assays are pending from SGS Laboratories. The diamond core drilling program, which is the continuation of the diamond drilling conducted between April and June 2007, resumed on September 10, 2007.

Together with the contiguous Praso property, Midlands controls 160 square kilometres of a prime gold exploration district delineated by a 16 kilometre corridor with large soil gold anomalies providing excellent potential for the discovery of several gold deposits on the property.
