Midlands Minerals Corporation 'TSX-VN: MEX' Commences Follow-Up Geochemistry Program on the Itilima Project-Tanzania

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - July 6, 2005) - Kim Harris, Chief Executive Officer of Midlands Minerals Corporation ("Midlands" or the "Corporation" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:MEX) announces that the Company will commence a second MMI soil geochemistry program on its Itilima project in Tanzania prior to initiating RAB and/or RC drilling planned for October 2005. The work program designed by Marc Boisvert P.Eng. and Pierre Lalande, P.Geo, will follow-up on geochemical anomalies that are coincident with geological, structural and geophysical features defined in previous surveys. Field work is expected to commence on or about July 11, 2005 and will be supervised by Marc Boisvert.

The Itilima Project is located 18 km east of Shinyanga in the Lake Victoria Goldfields and is 65 sq km in area.

The previous geochemical survey covered the entire 1406/99 Prospecting License on a 400m by 80m grid. Sampled media included: 1) termite mounds and saprolite analyzed for gold using 2-kg bottle roll cyanidation; and 2) transported material such as lacustrine clay, silcrete and calcrete analyzed for gold plus 4 pathfinder elements (Co, Ni, Pd, Ag) by the "Mobile Metal Ions" (MMI-B5) procedure. The geochemical survey was complemented by bedrock mapping along drainages.

The previous results delineated geochemical anomalies associated with the artisanal gold diggings on the property and outlined new areas. The results supported previous mapping and indicated that the Itilima artisanal workings are parts of a significant gold-bearing system composed of the intersection of a NW-SE structure with several parallel N020 degrees brittle fractures developed into a diorite and its surrounding brittle felsic horizons. High background to anomalous gold results form a cluster delineating a 2-km x 4-km area. Within the cluster are three main linear axial hinges interconnecting anomalous gold values along linears in excess of 1 km and that are parallel to alignment of the Itilima gold workings. The NNE gold trends intersect a NW-SE gold anomaly with a strike length of 4 km and coinciding with a NW-SE magnetic airborne interpreted structure.

The follow-up survey will use the MMI-B geochemical technique with sampling at 200 m by 40 m center to follow-up on four targets located in areas of extensive lacustrine clay cover. In-fill MMI (10 lines at 20m spacing) plus pitting/trenching will be conducted to better define drill targets. Pitting and trenching samples plus composite grab rock samples of outcropping, if encountered, will be analyzed for gold using 2-kg, 24-hour bottle roll cyanidation.

The targets are:

Target # 1: quartz veins and stockwork in a brittle felsic horizon having a cumulative strike length potential of 1.6 km along the northern and a southern extension of the Itilima artisanal workings.

Target # 2: a 2.7 km long gold anomaly in a fractured dioritic sill as revealed from outcroppings and interpretation of the airborne magnetic data.

Target # 3: a 3.2 km-long MMI anomaly orientated N020 degrees and located west of the fractured diorite. The narrow trend is centered on 4 MMI-B high values associated with a 500-meter wide envelope of high background values.

Target # 4: a 4-km long MMI trend located on a NW-SE structure intersecting both the Itilima Zone (Target #1) and the Western Zone (Target # 3). A quartz porphyry felsic intrusive with adjacent felsic rock form are believed to be part of an eastern extension of this MMI trend

Results from the follow-up geochemical-mapping survey are expected by the end of September, 2005. Confirmed anomalies are to be RAB or RC drilled starting in early October.
