Midokura Presentation At-a-Glance

Presentation Title: "The Great Debate: Overlay vs. OpenFlow"
Who: Adam Johnson, General Manager, Midokura
When: Wednesday, April 2, 2014, 11:45 am-12:45pm PT
Where: Breakers D, Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas

Session Summary: Since the of rise Software Defined Networking (SDN), technologists have been strongly divided by vendors and research communities alike touting two unique approaches for network virtualization: One that relies on a software-centric overlay approach and one that takes a hardware-centric alternative under a single controller, such as OpenFlow. The criticisms on both sides claim limitations to scalability, increases in complexity, and warn of the problems with dragging physical-network baggage into a virtualized world. In this presentation, Midokura General Manager Adam Johnson will discuss the history of SDN, what he believes OpenFlow is best for, and compare and contrast this with the practical goals of network virtualization and what overlay networking is perfect for. Attendees will also learn about breaking down the operation definitions within the industry and explore which solution is right for your company's needs.

In October of 2013, Midokura announced a new release of its flagship product, MidoNet.
