Session: Connecting Physical and Virtual Workloads in the Cloud

  • When: Wednesday, November 4, 11:45 am - 12:35 pm CET
  • Where: Beurs van Berlage Conference Center, Amsterdam
  • Who: Alexander Gabert, Systems Engineer, Midokura
  • Summary: Today, applications are deployed on both virtual and physical machines. Despite widespread use of virtualization, some memory-intensive workloads such as Voice, Big Data/Hadoop and relational databases, are still more suited for bare metal. MEM allows users to mix and match virtual and physical workloads in a single logical network with simplified management oversight. This session will discuss the hardware virtual tunnel endpoint (VTEP) features in MEM, a distributed network virtualization overlay, the benefits of Open Networking, as well as 'lessons learned' based on a real-world customer use case.

Demo: MidoNet Manager

  • When: Wednesday, November 4, 1:05 - 1:20 pm CET
  • Where: Partner Technology Theater, Beurs van Berlage Conference Center, Amsterdam
  • Who: Alexander Gabert, Systems Engineer, Midokura
  • Summary: This demo will show how to examine network services using MidoNet Manager, a component of MEM that provides a single screen view of all the bridges, routers, tenants, tunnel zones being managed by MidoNet and the agents.

Presenter Alexander Gabert is a systems engineer at Midokura. Previously, he spent several years working on systems engineering and system operations projects in large companies throughout Germany, including Inovex in Karlsruhe.
