Midtown Business RadioX's Top Docs Radio Welcomes the Northside Cancer Institute

CW Hall Leads Discussion on Skin Cancer and Risk-Reducing Precautions to Take Now

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - October 31, 2014) - On September 24th, 2014, Top Docs Radio welcomed Dr. Alexander Gross, Dr. Jenny Chang, Dr. Sahar Rosenbaum, Dr. Scott Davidson and Dr. Aaron Alizadeh of the Northside Cancer Institute. Host CW Hall spoke with this group of physicians about preventative measures that can be taken to reduce the prevalence of this fatal disease.

More than 2 million persons per year are diagnosed with skin cancer. This is more cases than breast, lung, prostate, and colon cancers combined. Left undiscovered or untreated for too long, these cancers can spread to other parts of the body, leading to serious illness and death. 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. It's a problem that can be reduced in frequency with which it occurs. When skin cancer does occur, it is ideally treated by a team of physicians from a variety of specialties to most effectively eliminate the cancer and reduce the risk for it returning.

"The best way to avoid getting skin cancer is to avoid exposure to ultra violet radiation," said Dr. Gross of Georgia Dermatology Center. "This means staying out of the sun and avoiding tanning beds. For instances where you have to be out in the sun, make sure your skin is protected. Wear protective clothing, hats, sun glasses, and any area of the skin that is not covered by any of these should be covered in a sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher."

Northside Cancer Institute is an extensive network of state-of-the-art facilities staffed with skilled, caring professionals who are dedicated to the health and wellness of the communities they serve. They have three not-for-profit hospitals, located in Atlanta, Forsyth and Cherokee, with a total of 838 licensed beds. Their affiliated outpatient centers and medical offices have more than 2,300 physicians on staff and over 10,000 employees. With the growing prevalence of cancer, Northside has nearly 700,000 patient encounters annually. All of Northside's hospitals are full-service, acute-care facilities that offer particular expertise in a variety of oncology related fields.
