Military Divers Training in Mauricie

VALCARTIER, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sept. 16, 2016) -

Residents of Mékinac and people passing through the area could notice soldiers taking part in dive training in the area of Saint-Jean-des-Piles from September 19 to 23, 2016.

From their encampment set up at Baie Martin Camping, some 20 members of 5 Combat Engineer Regiment (5 CER) will devote themselves, day and night, diving into the Des Piles Lake. Around ten military wheeled vehicles will also be visible at times close to the training grounds.

No weapons or ammunition will be used for this exercise. Pyrotechnics, such as warning firecrackers or flares, however, could be used in case of an emergency.

This exercise aims at training combat divers and diving supervisors. Using unfamiliar places of learning that are adapted to training needs (e.g. Deep-water diving) improves such exercises.

The population is invited to come and meet divers throughout the exercise. The public will then be able to share with the soldiers on the spot and observe the specialized equipment used during training.
