Military Presence in the RCM of La Jacques-Cartier

VALCARTIER BASE, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Aug. 28, 2015) - Residents of the RCM of La Jacques-Cartier and people passing through the region may see soldiers taking part in patrol training from August 31 to September 11, 2015.

From a location along the Pine River, in Fossambault-sur-le-Lac, about thirty infantry members will ascend the river daily aboard inflatable boats to Lake Saint Joseph. From this point, the soldiers of the 1st Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment (1 R22eR) will dismount to take a path that will lead them to the Station touristique Duchesnay. The troops will then return to the training areas of the Valcartier Base, still on foot, where they will conclude their learning.

Note that soldiers will wear their camouflage uniforms and will carry their weapons in all their movements in order to give a certain realism to the maneuvers. They will not use their weapons.

The objective of this training is essentially to allow troops of the 1 R22eR to practice the basic techniques of military patrol. Executing these manoeuvers in an unfamiliar area is intended to enrich this training.
