Miller & Smith Recieves the 2011 Agnes L. Colgan Celebration of Life Award

MCLEAN, VA--(Marketwire - Nov 29, 2011) - Miller & Smith, an award-winning homebuilder and real estate development company, is proud to announce that the company is the recipient of the 2011 Agnes L. Colgan Celebration of Life Award presented by Transitional Housing BARN, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides housing, supportive services, life management skills and financial education for homeless women and their dependent children.

The award is typically presented to an individual who has helped BARN with its mission. For the first time in BARN's history, the award was presented to an organization in recognition of the teamwork of more than 100 Miller & Smith employees and subcontractors, who volunteered their time to build a new deck, install new landscaping and assemble playground equipment. In addition, Miller & Smith and its contract partners donated the labor and materials to renovate four large living quarters with new kitchens, new flooring and painting.

Colin Davis, Executive Director, BARN, remarked: "We are so pleased to present our highest award to Miller & Smith. I can't say enough about how the renovations have instilled a sense of pride into the women and children in our community. The work Miller & Smith did saved us funds that are now being reallocated to programming and expanding our services. We are very grateful."

Doug Smith, President, Miller & Smith, commented, "It was a special honor for our organization to receive this award. The renovations of the apartments and the playground project that we did this past year was the right thing to do. All the folks at Miller & Smith recognize what a positive impact the programs at BARN have on the women and children they serve. It's a wonderful success story."

Founded in 1996 by the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia, Transitional Housing BARN, Inc. opened its doors to the homeless women and children of Prince William County, Virginia, in the spring of 1997. Since this time the organization has helped hundreds of families successfully meet their plan objectives and move into and sustain permanent housing.
