Milrem Joins Estonian Prime Minister on Visit to USA; Showcases Innovative Modular Unmanned Infantry System to American Defense Suppliers

Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) to Be Presented as Part of Joint US-Estonia Symposium on Cybersecurity and Defense Cooperation in Washington, DC

TALLINN, ESTONIA--(Marketwired - March 17, 2016) - Milrem, a developer of an innovative hybrid unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) for military and commercial applications, will join the Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia, Mr. Taavi Rõivas, during his visit to the United States next week. As part of a delegation of renowned Estonian defense and technology companies, Milrem will use the occasion to present its first-of-its-kind THeMIS modular infantry system to key US defense suppliers.

The three-city tour -- Boston, Washington, DC and Raleigh, NC -- will feature stops at important government agencies, contactors and incubators. The tour will be highlighted by an industry event focused on the future of technology in the defense industry. "U.S - Estonian Symposium on Cybersecurity and Defense Cooperation" will feature participants from suppliers such as Raytheon International, Honeywell, Lockheed Martin, United Technologies, Textron, Northrup and General Dynamics, as well as key government agencies. That event is scheduled for 9:00AM on Tuesday, March 22 at the George Washington University in Washington, DC.

An evening reception following that seminar will celebrate a memorandum of understanding to facilitate further cooperation between the National Defense Industry Association (NDIA) and its Estonian counterpart, the Estonian Defense Industry Association (EDIA), which is chaired by Milrem CEO Kuldar Väärsi.

"It is a great honor to be included in the Prime Minister's delegation and serve as a representative of Estonia's dynamic technology, defense and security ecosystem. We feel that our unique hybrid vehicle development is representative of the type of innovation coming out of our country, and will be interesting to American companies looking to leverage the potential of unmanned vehicles for more efficient defense and transport solutions," noted Väärsi.

Milrem first unveiled its THeMIS (Tracked Hybrid Modular Infantry System) unmanned vehicle at the Singapore Airshow in February. It earned strong reviews for its modular concept, which allows it to be transformed to adapt to a wide range of mission requirements and commercial needs. The company is developing a full family of UGV products which differ only by superstructure application, but use the same base vehicle, increasing flexibility and reducing overall life cycle costs. Military uses include as an armed tactical defense weapon, remote reconnaissance platform, medevac vehicle and supply delivery device. Milrem has successfully conducted initial running tests for the THeMIS prototype, and THeMIS will be ready for production by the end of this year.
