Mindspeed® Achieves More Than 20% Power Savings With Golden Gate's PowerGold

PowerGold Automatically Reduces Power Consumption, Works With Industry-Standard Flows

SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 18, 2007 -- Golden Gate Technology, Inc., a company focused on power reduction in nanometer electronic design, announced that Mindspeed Technologies ®, Inc., a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, has adopted Golden Gate's PowerGold™ to reduce power consumption in Mindspeed's design flow. Using PowerGold, Mindspeed achieved more than 20% power reduction and is currently using PowerGold for a networking chip design project.

Rising power consumption is a huge challenge in many of today's leading edge designs and there is a demand for automated power reduction solutions. PowerGold automatically reduces power consumption 10% to 20% or more and works with industry-standard cell physical design flows, such as those supported by Cadence Design Systems, Magma Design Automation and Synopsys.

"Mindspeed has conducted an extensive evaluation and is very impressed with PowerGold's power reduction capabilities," said Surinder Dhaliwal, Director of Design Infrastructure at Mindspeed. "PowerGold delivered more than 20% power savings in addition to other capabilities and methods already employed in our design environment. It has been successfully integrated into our mainstream physical design flow to automatically reduce dynamic and leakage power while maintaining timing."

"We are very pleased to help Mindspeed address their power challenges," said William Ruby, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Golden Gate. "Mindspeed and a large California-based semiconductor company are among the first customers to adopt the newest version of PowerGold, since shipments began in 2006," added Ruby.

More about PowerGold

PowerGold is unique in providing a wire-centric algorithm for automatic power reduction. This patent-pending optimization technology, WiresFirst™, minimizes total capacitance on critical clock and signal nets through route optimization and isolation techniques that reduce power without negatively impacting chip timing. After initial routing, WiresFirst incrementally rebalances capacitances and restructures logic to reduce excess power consumption with minimal perturbation to a design's timing and physical layout characteristics. PowerGold supports multiple threshold voltage cell libraries to reduce leakage current without negatively impacting timing. Because PowerGold reduces wire capacitance with the WiresFirst algorithm, low-leakage cells are used more frequently than in traditional design flows, resulting in greater leakage power reduction. Various power reduction techniques implemented by PowerGold are cumulative.
