Mindways Software Releases New Version of QCT PRO™ CT Bone Densitometry Software

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - Sep 12, 2011) - Mindways Software, a leading image analysis software applications provider, today announced that it has released a new version of its flagship CT bone densitometry software, QCT PRO™. The new version of QCT PRO™ will be on display at the forthcoming American Society of Bone Mineral Research (ASBMR) meeting in San Diego. Mindways has completely redesigned the user experience during installation, licensing and setup and enhanced the feature set through persistent analysis configuration options which allows much more precise baseline and follow-up comparisons of patient status.

"Growing numbers of osteoporotic fractures in our ageing population is placing an increasing burden on our healthcare system; yet estimates by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) indicate that less than 20% of women at risk for osteoporosis in a typical community are currently being screened for low bone density -- the single most important risk factor for osteoporosis. QCT PRO™ provides a cost-effective means of adding bone density service to CT scanners distributed throughout the country in large and small communities alike," said Keenan Brown, Mindways' CEO.

Alan Brett, Mindways' VP Business Development, added: "QCT PRO is covered by Medicare insurance, and by making use of CT scanners that are existing parts of the healthcare infrastructure, quantitative CT (QCT) with its low capital and maintenance costs often provides for bone densitometry services for less than the cost of operating a DXA machine. This allows smaller facilities and rural hospitals with low densitometry referrals to offer this important service to their communities. Larger facilities also benefit from QCT by improving their CT equipment utilization with minimal burden on other CT procedures since a typical QCT scan will takes less than 5 minutes of CT scanner time. The new version of the software will enable our customers to provide this service more efficiently than ever."

Mindways QCT PRO™ software produces bone densitometry reports for both spine and hip from a low dose abdominal CT scan with a dose comparable to a mammogram. Hip reports are interpreted in the same way as DXA reports. Spine measurements are made in the trabecular bone volume only and give exceptional sensitivity to BMD change, which means these BMD measurements are also used in pharmaceutical clinical trials.

About Mindways Software, Inc.
Mindways produces Quantitative CT (QCT) bone densitometry products for spine and hip bone density measurements. Mindways premier product, QCT PRO™ uses CT images to derive DXA-like hip BMD measurements and volumetric spine BMD measurements. QCT PRO™ hip BMD measurements are interpreted in the same manner as DXA, while spine measurements provide exceptional sensitivity to short-term bone density change. QCT PRO™ is fast, easy, covered by insurance, and provides the same clinical utility as DXA at a fraction of its cost.
