Minister Addresses Delegates at the Royal Canadian Legion Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Command Convention

ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR--(Marketwire - Aug. 16, 2009) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today spoke before some 200 delegates during the business session at The Royal Canadian Legion Provincial Command 61st Biennial Convention.

"We are very fortunate to have groups like The Royal Canadian Legion to care for and look out for our Veterans and their families," said Minister Thompson. "The work you do-every day-is truly extraordinary."

The Minister provided delegates with an update on programs and services for Veterans including the announcement of Integrated Personnel Support Centres at Canadian Forces Stations St. John's and Gander, as well as two additional operational stress injury clinics in Ottawa and Vancouver-part of a national network of clinics including one in Fredericton serving Atlantic Canada.

Minister Thompson commended The Royal Canadian Legion for its work in making sure Canada's Veterans are treated with the dignity and respect they have earned.

The convention runs from August 16-17, 2009. The next round of provincial biennial conventions will be held in 2011 across the country.
