Minister Addresses Delegates at The Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Provincial Command Convention

BURLINGTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 11, 2009) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today spoke before approximately 1,000 delegates during the business session of The Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Provincial Command Biennial Convention held in Burlington.

"The Royal Canadian Legion has a proud history of advocating for the men and women who have served our country and defended the freedoms we enjoy today. Your efforts have helped ensure that we will never forget their achievements and sacrifices," said Minister Thompson.

The Minister provided delegates with an update on programs and services for Veterans including the opening of operational stress injury clinics in Ottawa and Vancouver, part of a national network of clinics.

Minister Thompson commended The Royal Canadian Legion for its commitment to Canada's Veterans.

"As an organization, The Royal Canadian Legion is a valuable partner in ensuring Canada's Veterans have the honour and support they so rightly deserve," added the Minister.

The Convention runs from May 9 to 13, 2009. The next round of provincial biennial conventions will be held in 2011 across the country.
