Minister Ashfield Lends His Support to Great Lakes And Nunavut Exhibitors at the China Fisheries and Seafood Expo

Minister Ashfield lent his support to exhibitors from the Great Lakes and Nunavut at the China Fisheries and Seafood Expo yesterday, where he met with many potential buyers and sellers at what is the largest trade show of its kind in Asia.

Canada's freshwater and Arctic fish and seafood industry is a growing economic driver, with 3,000 jobs in Central and Western Canada and the North. Exports of freshwater and Arctic products reached $143 million in 2010, up from $122 million in 2009. Among the main products from this region are Arctic char, Northern shrimp and Greenland halibut in Nunavut, as well as whitefish, pickerel, pike, perch, and many other freshwater fish from Ontario and Western Canada.
