Minister Blackburn and MP Steven Blaney Meet Veterans from Chaudiere-Appalaches and Quebec City Region

LÉVIS, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 23, 2011) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture), was in Lévis today to speak with local Veterans and representatives of the Canadian Forces. The Minister, accompanied by Steven Blaney, MP for Lévis–Bellechasse, took advantage of his visit to the region to discuss current and upcoming changes and improvements within the Department.

"We are fortunate to live in a peaceful and democratic country, and for this we owe our Veterans," said Minister Blackburn. "In recognition of their accomplishments and their sacrifices, Veterans deserve all the support and services they need. This is a priority for our government, which is why, last fall, I announced an additional $2 billion to help our Veterans. Veterans Affairs Canada is also working to simplify its processes to make their lives easier."

At the Lévis Armoury this evening, the Minister had to opportunity to respond directly to questions. The event allowed the Minister to hear from those who benefit from the programs and services available to both traditional and modern-day Veterans.

"Veterans from Lévis–Bellechasse and the greater Quebec region, in particular those who have served with the Royal 22e Régiment and the Régiment de la Chaudière, have made great sacrifices so we may live in the Canada we know today. With his presence today, Minister Blackburn is giving them the recognition they deserve and is proving once again that our government is determined to listen and adapt its services and programs to their needs," added MP Blaney.
