Minister Blackburn Participates in a Youth Commemoration Forum at John Paul I High School

MONTRÉAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 10, 2010) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture), has reiterated the Department's commitment to renew its commemoration activities by joining students at John Paul I High School in Montréal for a Youth Forum on Commemoration. On the eve of Remembrance Day, students from the school took part in a commemorative ceremony to honour those who fought for peace and freedom.

Second World War Veterans and members of the local Legion also participated in the ceremony. They all then gathered to exchange about the meaning of remembrance.

"It is always a pleasure for me to see young Canadians interested in commemoration. It means the sacrifices, courage and exploits of our Veterans will never be forgotten," said Minister Blackburn. "After all, it will be their duty to carry the torch of remembrance in the years to come. Today's discussions will help them gain a better understanding of our Veterans and of our collective history."

Canadians across the country are showing how they remember and honour our Veterans during Veterans' Week 2010, from November 5 to 11.

This year during Veterans' Week, make remembrance more than something you feel, make it something you do. Show how you remember by attending a Remembrance Day ceremony, visiting the local cenotaph or monument, sharing your thoughts of remembrance online, or wearing a poppy with pride. This Veterans' Week, how will you remember? Learn more and find remembrance events and activities in your area at
