Minister Blackburn Promotes Diverse and Prosperous Workplaces

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 14, 2007) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today visited Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc. as part of a trip to promote best practices in employment equity.

The Minister visited the organization to recognize the progress being made and to speak about issues that affect the workplace. The Minister also highlighted the commitment of Canada's New Government to fair, safe and inclusive work environments, and Labour Program accomplishments.

"This visit gave me the opportunity to sit down with employee and employer representatives so that we may listen and learn from each group's perspective on workplace issues," said Minister Blackburn. "Canada's New Government is committed to offer Canadians a safe, fair and competitive workplace. To help us achieve this, collaborative efforts are needed across different levels of government, with employers, employees, labour unions and businesses," added Minister Blackburn.

The Minister also met with cultural communities and media to talk about the importance of racism-free workplaces. Minister Blackburn also took this opportunity to discuss what Canada's New Government can offer them.
