Minister Blaney Launches Cyber Security Awareness Month and Encourages Canadians to Get Cyber Safe

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 1, 2013) - Today, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, launched Cyber Security Awareness Month and kicked off this year's efforts for Get Cyber Safe, Canada's national public awareness campaign on cyber security.

"Our day to day lives have become entwined with the online world, be it at work, at home, or on the go, and being secure online has never been more important. October's Cyber Security Awareness Month reminds us that there are simple things we can all do to stay safe online," said Minister Blaney. "I encourage all Canadians to take some extra time this month to learn how to better protect themselves and their families."

To help Canadians become more cyber secure, the GetCyberSafe.ca website also offers the following resources:

- Animated videos, including "Easy Ways to Stay Safe on Social Networks"

Get Cyber Safe is the national public awareness campaign created to educate Canadians about Internet security and the simple steps individuals can take to protect themselves online. The campaign's goal is to bring together all levels of government, the public and private sectors, and the international community, to help Canadians be safer online.
