Minister Clement Announces Government of Canada Investments in Muskoka's Growing Arts Economy

BRACEBRIDGE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 11, 2010) - The Honourable Tony Clement, Member of Parliament for Parry Sound—Muskoka, today announced a FedNor investment of $82,500 in support of three youth initiatives in Bracebridge.

"Our Government knows that a strong Canadian economy is built on strong local communities. That's why we are committed to investing in initiatives that build on the strengths of the regional economy and capitalize on opportunities to diversify and create jobs," said MP Clement. "This investment will directly benefit local businesses, help Bracebridge develop its creative economy and provide youth with valuable job experience right here in Northern Ontario."

Muskoka Arts and Crafts, the Arts Council of Muskoka and the Bracebridge Arts Council have each hired a Youth Intern with responsibilities ranging from developing new markets for Muskoka's artisans and promoting the creative economy as a career option for area youth to designing technical support for theatre productions in support of the region's growing arts community.

Since its inception, FedNor's Youth Internship Program has helped provide nearly 1300 bright, young graduates with that crucial first job, helping them make the transition from the campus to the workplace.

"We're very excited about the positive impact FedNor funding will have on our ability to raise the profile of Muskoka arts, crafts and culture beyond the communities of Muskoka, as well as help foster entrepreneurship among our members," said Miranda Britton, President, Muskoka Arts and Crafts.

By supporting people, communities and business through its programs and services, FedNor is opening doors and building futures for a prosperous Northern Ontario.
