Minister Clement Champions Government's Innovation and Job Creation Efforts in Calgary

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 23, 2012) - The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for FedNor, delivered brief remarks to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce on creating jobs and growth and cutting red tape. Minister Clement also discussed these topics during a round-table session with representatives from the Frontier Centre for Public Policy.

"The Government is committed to a new approach to supporting innovation," said Minister Clement. "By focusing on the drivers of growth and job creation-innovation, investment, education, skills and communities-the new measures in Economic Action Plan 2012 will solidify, strengthen and draw upon the business sector's and entrepreneurs' role as a driving force behind Canada's economy."

The Government's efforts to cut the red tape burden for businesses is an example of how the Government is stimulating productivity and increasing opportunities for innovation and knowledge sharing.

Calgary is well known for the innovative entrepreneurship of its small and medium-sized businesses. Minister Clement highlighted some examples of the Government's collaborative efforts to help Calgary businesses succeed in their innovative initiatives.
