Minister Clement in Vancouver to Discuss Government's Focus on Job Creation

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 22, 2012) - The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for FedNor, during an address to the Vancouver Board of Trade, discussed creating jobs and growth, red tape reduction and Open Government.

"Jobs and growth will remain the Government's top priority," said Minister Clement. "By focusing on the drivers of growth and job creation-innovation, investment, education, skills and communities-the new measures in Economic Action Plan 2012 will solidify, strengthen and draw upon the business sector's and entrepreneurs' role as a driving force behind Canada's economy."

The Government's recent initiatives to cut the red tape burden for businesses and its Action Plan for Open Government are examples of how the Government is drawing on these drivers to stimulate productivity and increase opportunities for innovation and knowledge sharing.

Vancouver is well known for the innovative entrepreneurship of its small and medium-sized businesses. Minister Clement highlighted some examples of the Government's collaborative efforts to help Vancouver businesses succeed in their innovative initiatives.

"Helping small businesses focus on what they do best-sustaining our economic recovery by creating jobs and growth in communities across Canada-is a priority of Economic Action Plan 2012, the Government's plan for jobs, growth and long-term prosperity," added Minister Clement.
