Minister Clement Promotes Efforts to Modernize and Streamline Government IT

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 8, 2013) - The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, delivered a keynote address today to this year's Government Technology Exhibition and Conference to outline the modernization and streamlining of government IT supporting back office operations.

"We are determined to shift departments away from owning and operating different systems that meet similar back office needs," said Minister Clement. "This will free up resources that can be reinvested in modernized applications. The improvements will increase productivity and lower costs in our back offices, ultimately leading to better program and service delivery to Canadians."

Canada is pursuing enterprise opportunities to standardize and transform its back office IT environment. It is consolidating where possible, through enterprise-wide solutions designed to reduce duplication, drive down costs, and reallocate IT spending to meet mission-critical business needs.

"These projects demonstrate our Government's commitment to new ways of doing business in partnership with the most innovative, cutting-edge companies in the country. The success of these projects will be a testament to the power of collaboration between the public and private sector," added Minister Clement.

The Government Technology Exhibition and Conference is a key annual event for government professionals in the Information Technology sector, and plays an important role in the exchange of ideas and best practices that lead to high government performance.
