Minister Clement Tables the 2011-12 Public Accounts of Canada

Ministerial Office Expenditures Down 11.6% From Last Year

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 30, 2012) - The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for FedNor, today tabled the 2011-12 Public Accounts of Canada in the House of Commons.

"For the 14th consecutive year, the Auditor General has provided a clean audit opinion on the Government of Canada's financial statements," said Minister Clement. "This testifies to the high standards of the Government's financial statements and reporting, and it is a record of which Canada can be justifiably proud".

The Public Accounts of Canada is the most comprehensive accountability report the Government produces. This document provides Canadians, Parliamentarians and decision-makers with the financial position of the Government as of March 31, 2012.

"The consolidated audited Financial Statements of the Government of Canada set out the full nature and extent of the financial affairs and resources for which all of us in Government are responsible," said Minister Clement. "Ministers are leading the way and were able to reduce their offices expenditures 11.6 percent compared to last year".

The Public Accounts are prepared jointly by the Receiver General for Canada, the President of the Treasury Board and the Department of Finance. The Public Accounts of Canada are available on the Public Works and Government Services website at: http://www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca/recgen/txt/72-eng.html.
