Minister Day Announces Appointments to the National Parole Board in the Prairies Region

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 19, 2006) - The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, today announced the appointments of Mr. Ian S. Fowler and Mr. Murray Allan Dodds as members in the Prairies region of the National Parole Board (NPB).

"I would like to congratulate Mr. Fowler and Mr. Dodds for their success and ability to undergo such a rigorous selection and screening process. I am proud to welcome them as members of the NPB," said Minister Day "These appointments clearly reflect the commitment of Canada's New Government to appoint NPB members on the basis of merit and ability," he added.

Ian S. Fowler of Calgary is an executive and private businessman who has worked extensively in the Oil and Energy field. He is currently an energy advisor and consultant providing advisory services to upstream Oil and Gas Companies, specializing in acquisition and divestments, management reporting, strategic planning and project evaluation. From 1987 to 2002 he worked for ConocoPhillips Canada Limited/Gulf Canada Resources Limited where he occupied a number of progressively senior positions including Director of International Business Development; Manager for Strategy and Portfolio Management and as a Senior Advisor, Corporate Finance, among other positions.

Mr. Fowler has a Master of Business Administration, Finance and Business Policy degree (1987) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction (1986) from the University of Alberta.

Murray Allan Dodds of Calgary has 22-years of experience in various positions with the Alberta Department of Justice including Probation and Parole Officer, Community Corrections Manager, District Director Correctional Services, and Deputy Director, Calgary Young Offender Centre. From 1995 to 1999, Mr. Dodds was the executive Pastor at the Foothills Alliance Church and from 1999 to 2003, he was Senior Pastor. He is currently the executive director of the Institution for Global Affairs which is a national and international organization conducting worship and prayer summits for world institutions such as the United Nations, the G8 and the World Trade Organization.

Mr. Dodds has a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta and has pursued Masters Degree level courses in management, administration, counselling and religion.

The National Parole Board is an independent tribunal responsible for deciding the timing and conditions of release of offenders on various forms of parole. As part of the criminal justice system, the Board contributes to the protection of the community by facilitating the timely integration of offenders as law-abiding citizens. The Board's first and foremost consideration in its decision-making is the safety of the public.
