Minister Day Applauds CBSA Following the Arrest of 45 Individuals for Immigration Violations

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 6, 2008) - The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement today in response to news that the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) arrested 45 individuals, who are alleged to be in violation of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), following a raid of a distribution warehouse facility in the Greater Toronto Area.

"I'd like to commend the CBSA for its investigative efforts and these arrests. This large-scale operation protects the integrity of our immigration program and reinforces the security and prosperity of Canada.

The Government of Canada continues to take this issue very seriously and remains committed to ensuring that those who wish to live in Canada do so according to our laws and by respecting the proper legal channels."

The investigation was conducted by the CBSA with assistance from Peel Regional Police. The cases of the 45 undocumented workers will be addressed under the provisions of IRPA and may lead to the issuance of removal orders from Canada.
