Minister Day Applauds Joint Unprecedented Seizure of Illegal Drugs

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 13, 2007) - Today, the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, released the following statement in response to news that the RCMP in conjunction with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) have successfully seized approximately 30 kilograms of cocaine imported in a piece of checked baggage at Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Ontario. It is believed to be the largest seizure, involving a drug courier, in the history of Canada's busiest airport.

"This seizure is another example of our government's unwavering commitment to tackle crime and keep drugs off our streets. This should send a message to anyone involved in the illicit trafficking of drugs, weapons and other contraband that our law enforcement agencies will continue to zero-in on those individuals who try to import illegal materials into Canada.

On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to thank the RCMP and the CBSA for another successful operation, and for their dedication to fighting crime and keeping our communities safe."
