Minister Day Commends the RCMP for Dismantling an Alleged Criminal Organization Involved in Drug Trafficking and Drug Exportation

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 26, 2008) - The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement today concerning an announcement by the RCMP of multiple arrests involving a drug trafficking and marijuana exportation ring based in Kahnawake, QC.

I commend the RCMP officers who participated in "Project CANCUN" for their efforts throughout this investigation and subsequent arrests. This is yet another demonstration of the contributions made by our law enforcement agencies to keep our communities safe and drugs off our street.

The Government of Canada remains committed to ensuring that our law enforcement agencies have the tools and resources to tackle crime and keep our streets free from drugs. Canada's National Anti-Drug Strategy has provided additional resources to better disrupt and dismantle criminal organizations involved in the illegal distribution of drugs.

We will continue to support the RCMP and other law enforcement organizations as they work to target drug crime and to send a strong message to organized crime that this kind of illegal activity will not be tolerated.
