Minister Dominic LeBlanc Honours Class of 2016 Graduating From the Canadian Coast Guard College


SYDNEY, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - June 4, 2016) - The Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc welcomes 14 new officers who will serve Canadians and protect our marine environment. The officers from six different provinces took part in a graduation ceremony at the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney, Nova Scotia. They will be immediately posted to Canadian Coast Guard vessels.

The Canadian Coast Guard College is a national maritime training facility located on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Opened in September 1965, the College has built a solid reputation in Canada and throughout the world on a foundation of quality service and expert maritime training. As a residential facility that provides training and services in both official languages, the College remains unique in the world.

Since its opening, more than 1,050 fleet officers have graduated from the College. During this time, hundreds of international students have been trained in specialty programs. Graduates leave the College with a Bachelor of Technology degree in Nautical Science from Cape Breton University, as well as commercial certification as a Ship's Officer from Transport Canada.
