Minister John Duncan Visits Kingcome Inlet Village

Attention: Assignment Editor, Environment Editor, News Editor, Photo Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor KINGCOME INLET, BC, MEDIA ADVISORY--(Marketwire - Oct. 8, 2010) - The Dzawada'enuxw will host Indian and Northern Affairs Canada Minister John Duncan on Tuesday October 12th, 2010.

On September 24 and 25, a very large amount of rain fell in the Kingcome Inlet watershed causing an unprecedented rise of the Kingcome River. Dzawada'enuxw residents cannot recall any previous event where the level of the Kingcome River was so quick and so high. The entire village moved to the village school which was designed with a heli-pad and designated as the village's refuge of last resort. The majority of residents were evacuated by helicopter late in the afternoon of September 25.

Media transportation is available. The McKay Whale Watching, NAID Explorer, will depart Port McNeil, BC at 8:00 AM. The travel time is approximately 2 hours to the head of Kingcome Inlet and an additional 15 minutes by small boat up the Kingcome River to the village. Arriving approximately at 11:00 AM. Minister Duncan will arrive approximately 11:30 AM by helicopter.

* 11:30 - 12:00 Village tour
* 12:00 - 12:30 Helicopter overview with Minister and Indigenous leadership.
* 12:30 - 1:15 Lunch caucus with Band Council, Minister & Indigenous leadership.
* 1:30 - 2:15 Press Conference with Minister Duncan and Indigenous leadership.
* Transportation back to Port McNeil will be available shortly after the press conference, arriving in Port McNeil at 5:00 PM.
