Minister Keith Ashfield Addresses 80th Provincial Convention of the Royal Canadian Legion's New Brunswick Command

FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - Sept. 3, 2011) - On behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today addressed delegates during the opening ceremony of the 80th Provincial Convention of the Royal Canadian Legion's New Brunswick Command.

"Over the years, the Royal Canadian Legion has been a great partner of the Government of Canada," said Minister Blaney. "Our partnership is one that has certainly withstood the test of time and our Government will continue to collaborate as we strive to better serve our Veterans and to ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten."

Minister Ashfield helped kick off the Convention by commending the Royal Canadian Legion for its work in making sure that Canada's Veterans are treated with the dignity and respect they have earned. He also acknowledged the important role the Legion plays in ensuring the sacrifices and contributions of our Veterans are never forgotten.

"The Royal Canadian Legion has a proud history of advocating for the men and women who have served our country and defended the freedoms we enjoy today," said Minister Ashfield. "The support of the Royal Canadian Legion is key to our ongoing efforts to ensure that Veterans of all ages have the help they need—when they need it."

The biennial convention runs from September 2 to 4, 2011, at Fredericton Branch #4 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
